The First Book To Describe The Theory Of Evolution Was Not Written By Charles Darwin
Most people think that the first book to describe the theory of evolution was written by Charles Darwin. NOPE!!!
The first book to describe the theory of evolution was the Book of Mormon which is a religious history book which flatly rejects the theory of evolution. So when the theory of evolution books written by Darwin were published, the Book of Mormon already existed and was already rejecting the theory of evolution!!!
Darwin's first evolution book was published in 1859, 29 years after the Book of Mormon was published in 1830!!!
In fact, the Bible (which was written about 2,000 years ago) and the Book of Mormon both have very choice words for people like Richard Dawkins, Christopher Hitchens, Sam Harris, Victor J. Stenger, Michael Martin and many others who actively push atheism and/or the theory of evolution (the term "evolution" is just a diplomatic way of saying "atheism").
My first quotes about evolution come from the Bible, which was written long, long before the word "evolution" existed in England or America!!!
The Bible And The Theory of Evolution
The first book to warn the atheists and evolutionists was the Bible. It is clear that some of those those who preach the theory of evolution fit into these Bible versus.
Remember: If you click a blue link the article will open in a new window. Also, in each article on the www.lds.org website each quote is highlighted.
Matthew 10:28: "28 And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell."
Here is the entire chapter for context:
Matthew 18:6-7: "6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.
7 Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man by whom the offence cometh!"
Here is the context:
This next verse is very similar to the verse in Matthew 18:6-7 and was probably referring to the same event from which the other quote came.
Mark 9:42: "42 And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones that believe in me, it is better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and he were cast into the sea."
Here is the context:
The Book Of Mormon And The Theory Of Evolution
Now let's talk about what the Book of Mormon says. The Book of Mormon was written at roughly the same time as parts of the Bible, but most of the Book of Mormon was written by prophets who lived in the Americas. It was written anciently from long before the birth of Christ to roughly 421 A.D. (long after the life of Christ). It was first translated in 1830 by the prophet Joseph Smith.
While the Book of Mormon was published in 1830, Darwin's first and second books about evolution were published in 1859 and 1871, respectively. So the Book of Mormon was not reacting to the theory of evolution, it was predicting the coming forth of the theory of evolution!!!
No one knows what was going through Darwin's mind when he wrote his two books, or what goals he might have had in mind, but one thing is clear, his two books created a lot of atheists and evolutionists!!! And the atheists who existed before he published his books were delighted with Darwin - he was their hero!!!
That is precisely why Darwin was so afraid to publish his first book. He knew people would claim he was an atheist because his books convinced many people to believe that humans "evolved" from less sophisticated species and that God had nothing to do with it. This means his goal was to convince people that the wonders of nature were not a proof of God.
Whether this makes Darwin an atheist of not, makes no difference, he knew his books would convince people that God did not create the plants and animals on this planet!!! And he also knew that when people believed that, they very well could become atheists.
His first book in 1859 was so well received that he wrote a second book in 1871!!! God certainly considered Darwin to be an atheist even before Darwin wrote his first book!!!
The Book of Mormon covers a period of time between 600 B.C.and 421 A.D., with some exceptions. Obviously the languages spoken during that time no longer exist, except for some Hebrew, so only God, through a prophet, could have translated the Book of Mormon by using the Urim and Thummim.
The Book of Mormon was translated and published in 1830 by the prophet Joseph Smith. The Book of Mormon clearly anticipated the coming forth of Darwin's theory of evolution in three different places!!! The Book of Mormon could not use the term "evolution" because that word probably did not exist in upstate New York in 1830 when and where the Book of Mormon was first published and the word "evolution" certainy did not exist when the Book of Mormon was originally written!!
The Book of Mormon is a Christian book which strongly supports a belief in Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ, the Holy Ghost (the three members of the Godhead) and it supports a belief in living prophets, etc. And, as will be shown below, God was very much AGAINST the theory of evolution even before the theory of evolution existed!!! The Book of Mormon was against the theory of evolution (in 3 places) precisely because the theory of evolution, whether admitted or not, creates a lot of atheists regardless of Darwin's original motives.
I should note that the Book of Mormon was named after a famous prophet who is talked about in the Book of Mormon: Mormon. He was the second to last prophet mentioned in the Book of Mormon. His son Moroni finished the Book of Mormon and buried the gold plates which contained the Book of Mormon. The prophet Joseph Smith, centuries after the plates were buried, was shown where the plates were and was given the tools to translate it into English.
The fact that the Book of Mormon discussed the theory of evolution in three places means that God was, and still is, very concerned about the influence of the theory of evolution on His children, both in and out of the Mormon church. Everyone is a child of God no matter what religion they belong to. God is gracious enough to warn all people about false doctrines!!
And there are many "creation scientists" (i.e. those who actively promote a belief that God created all things) among all religions.
But note that the Book of Mormon was not reacting to the theory of evolution, it was proactively predicting and rejecting the theory of evolution was coming in three different places, in 1830, before Darwin's two books were published and more than a century before DNA was discovered!!! It was the discovery of DNA that really signaled the end of the credibility of the theory of evolution though no matter what is discovered there will likely always be a significant number of atheists and evolutionists.
This article will talk about the three sections in the Book of Mormon which predicted the coming forth of the theory of evolution. But before getting into the details, let's talk a little about what Mormon's believe and what the Book of Mormon adds to their beliefs.
A Little About Mormon Doctrine
In the Mormon church (officially The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-Day Saints) the Godhead consists of three separate Gods: Heavenly Father, Jesus Christ and the Holy Ghost. These are the three separate Gods in the Godhead.
Most religions believe in a Heaven (for those who are good and/or righteous) and a Hell (for those who fall short of being admitted into Heaven).
The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (also the LDS Church) has more categories than just Heaven and Hell. In fact, if I were to ask any scholar in the Mormon church to list all of the kingdoms of heaven and hell they would list:
However, the above list in incomplete!!! Let me provide more detail and add one more kingdom!!!
1) The Celestial Kingdom, where the righteous and noble will dwell after Judgment Day. This wonderful place is for those who die before the age of 8 and for the righteous and noble, but the Celestial Kingdom is subdivided into categories. For some religions this place is for those who are "born again," but this event is not recognized in the Mormon church. Mormons must keep the commandments as best they can and "endure to the end." Well, there is a lot more to Mormonism than that (such as "eternal marriage") but this is not an article on Mormonism.
2) The Terrestrial Kingdom. These people are the honorable of the world and they will actually be resurrected at the Second Coming of Christ along with the Celestial people. Both groups will stay on this planet, which will be "Celestialized"!!! This planet will be a very wonderful place for the righteous (Celestial) and honorable (Terrestrial).
3) The Telestial Kingdom, not as bad as you might think, but it is for those who do not meet the standards of the Terrestrial Kingdom. These people are not resurrected at the Second Coming!!!
For 1,000 years they will suffer on some other planet (as spirits) during the Millennium. Murderers almost always fit into this category, but there are many, many others who fit into this category. All of these people will burn in hell for 1,000 years (during the millennium). I personally think that not everyone will suffer equally. It is hard to imagine that God would punish Hitler and a pickpocket equally.
After the millennium these same people will be resurrected and sent to the Telestial Kingdom planet, which is actually a pretty good place to live. The biggest problem with the Telestial planet is the people you live with. It will be the same people that were on the Millennium planet.
The other problem with the Telestial kingdom is the people they are NOT with (e.g. the righteous and honorable).
4) "Like Unto the Son of Perdition", this category will be discussed below, but very few people, perhaps a few hundred, and most of the people (if not all) in this category will not be members of the Mormon church. It is almost never mentioned in the church as it is not really for church members.
I should note that this will probably be a subcategory of the Telestial Kingdom instead of its own Kingdom.
If you have been paying attention you would know that murders, who will generally go to the Telestial Kingdom, may have it far better than those who fit into the category of Like Unto the Son of Perdition even if both of them are in the Telestial Kingdom!!! Many of those in this category may be there because they commit "spiritual murder" by leading people away from a belief in the members of the Godhead and/or the true church (i.e. the living prophets).
5) Son of Perdition, the King Follett Discourse of Joseph Smith effectively states that only members of the Mormon church (i.e. they have the Gift of the Holy Ghost), who have a strong testimony of the church, and then turn on the church and persecute the church, might fit into this category so it is rarely mentioned in the church. This is an eternal punishment and is sometimes described as "fire and brimstone".
The "son of perdition" punishment may give a person a clue as to what the "like unto the son of perdition" punishment is all about. Here is a link to this discourse:
I should also mention that the Book of Mormon talks about the Son of Perdition punishment but it does not use the term "Son of Perdition." This happens in the chapter where Alma the Younger is teaching his wayward son Corianton. Well, he wasn't really teaching Corianton, the was "chewing him out" which is why he talked about the Son of Perdition punishment (without using that phrase).
It is talked about in Alma 39:5-6:
There is a very interesting article in the research section of the BYU website specifically about the subject of "lake of fire and brimstone" and "outer darkness." These seem to me to be reserved for the sons of perdition, but don't quote me on that.
Being on a planet like Mars, or worse yet Mercury, would certainly be a heck of a lot hotter than being on this planet. Mars was discovered by Christian Huygens in 1659 and Mercury was discovered in 265 B.C. by Timocharis!!!
This is pure speculation on my part, but "outer darkness" could be a planet like Mars, which is much further from the Sun that our earth so those on that planet would be in a very dark, and very cold place!!!
"Fire and brimstone" would certainly fit Mercury which has surface temperatures of 800 degrees Fahrenheit and the same part of Mercury is always pointed towards the Sun!!!
I am not making any claims, all I am saying is that modern astronomy confirms that such places (e.g. planets) exist!!! The actual implimentation of the key punishments have not been revealed to the members of the church by the living prophets.
There are also some interesting things said about the "spirit prison" on that website: "In this context, outer darkness is the spirit prison, or that part of the spirit world that the wicked inhabit prior to their resurrection."
Here is another issue: can a person who was rightous in the physical world go to a good part of the spirit world, but because of their behavior in the spirit world (e.g. the spirit world version of adultery), get suddenly kicked out of the normal portion of the spirit world into the "spirit prison" in the spirit world??? I wish I knew the answer to that question.
But because there is so very, very much missionary work going on in the spirit world, it would make sense that a person could go in either direction. But I don't know!!!
Other Comments (i.e. Other Mysteries)
Generally we perceive the "spirit world" as a very neutral place where many, many billions of people are wandering around on this planet, but we (i.e. those with physical bodies) cannot see them. But this articles adds some twists to this seemingly simple understanding:
In the "Separations in the Spirit World" section, it is very clear that the spirit world is divided into at least two physical sections.
Also in D&C 138, Christ only visited the righteous and honorable, but He did not go among the "rebellious who rejected the testimonies and the warnings of the ancient prophets behold his presence, nor look upon his face." This also implies at least two different physical locations.
It appears in these two article on the BYU website, that the spirit world has at least two different physical sections (perhaps both on this planet??), the large section for those who have been righteous or have been honorable, the other section, smaller in size (i.e. population, but I don't know if it is smaller in geography), is for the unrepentant and wicked.
Let me make some comments about the spirit world. When we die we will "go" to the spirit world. Well, the spirit world is this planet. But the spirit world is not as simple as you might think.
A person who is fully qualified for the Celestial Kingdom at the time of their death, will go to the spirit world (on this planet) like everyone else. However, some of these people may commit sins in the spirit world that can drop them all the way down to the Telestial Kingdom. So don't think that the spirit world is a playground.
I do not know if a person who dies can go to the "good" part of the spirit world, but because of their wicked behavior in the "good" part of the spirit world they are physically moved into the part of the spirit world for the wicked.
But what is clear is that there is a lot of missionary work going on in the spirit world!!! This missionary work may be in either the spirit world section for the righteous and honorable (including people in all religions) or the spirit world section for the wicked and unrepentant. Those who die before the age of 8 are in a whole different league than the rest of us and we don't know much about where they go or what they do.
But what is clear is that people can go up in the spirit world, otherwise why would there be any missionary work going on in the spirit world??? So maybe people can move in either direction from bad to good or from good to bad. But I do not know.
For example, see D&C 138, verse 20 (which is talking about Christ's mission in the spirit world):
Murder is not possible in the spirit world because spirits cannot die. The "unforgivable sin" cannot be committed in the spirit world. I do not know why this is the case, but I have read about this.
This leaves "the spirit world version of adultery" and preaching false doctrines as perhaps the two worst sins that can be committed in the spirit world. The big question is this: can these two sins (or perhaps other sins) cause a person to move from the "good" section of the spirit world to the "bad" section of the spirit world (which might be on a different planet??
I have not read any articles that directly answer that question.
More About The Book of Mormon
As implied above, the first book to describe the theory of evolution was the Book of Mormon, which was published in 1830, which was 29 years before Darwin's first book. There are actually three places in the Book of Mormon where the theory of evolution is discussed.
So essentially the Book of Mormon was PREDICTING the theory of evolution was coming in three different places!!!
The Book of Mormon is a religious history book, like the Bible, but it was written by ancient prophets, most of whom lived in the Americas. The Book of Mormon covers a period of time from 600 B.C. (or the Tower of Babel, whichever came first) to on or about 421 A.D. Christ is a prominent figure in the Book of Mormon and after His resurrection He actually appeared to many of the people, in the Americas, who lived at that time (34 A.D.)!! And he has appeared to other prophets both in Book of Mormon times and modern times.
The three groups of people in the Book of Mormon were called: the Nephites, the Lamanites and the people of Ether. Most of the people mentioned in the Book of Mormon lived in what we now call: South America, Central America and likely North America. Those discussed in the Book of Ether settled in North America at an unknown time (because the date of the Tower of Babel is unknown) but that group of people have been extinct for many years.
There are NO descendants of the Nephites and there are NO descendants of the people in the Book of Ether!! All of them were wiped out except Ether (the Book of Ether) who eventually died or was translated and Moroni (a Nephite), who eventually died or was translated about 421 A.D.
The Lamanites did survive and ultimately became the people of South America, Central America and the American Indians.
The Book of Mormon not only discusses the theory of evolution in three chapters, one of these chapters includes a massive warning to those who, for profit, mock the miracles of Christ, such as the resurrection!!! Examples would include authors who write pro-evolution books and/or pro-atheism books, who are paid to give lectures or participate in debates, and in the process they mock the miracles of Christ in the Bible (e.g. raising the dead, healing the sick, the resurrection of Christ) either by Christ Himself or by His followers (e.g. Peter).
The phrase: "shall become like unto the son of perdition, for whom there was no mercy" should attract the attention of those who are thinking about following in the footsteps of Dawkins and others!!
Authors who will likely fit into the category of the warnings, in my opinion, include Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett, Peter Singer, the late Christopher Hitchens and hundreds of others, all of whom are atheists and/or evolutionists who have mocked the miracles of Christ in books which they have written for profit, in debates or lectures they have been paid to give, etc.
Note that the Book of Mormon, published in 1830, talks about people who are alive today and describes some of the things they write about and talk about today!! The Book of Mormon was published more than 110 years before Richard Dawkins, the most famous atheist/evolutionist of all, was even born!!!
No doubt some of the people the Book of Mormon talked about in 1830 have not even been born yet as of this writing (2018)!!
I should emphasize that only God can make the final determination as to who will qualify for the "like unto the son of perdition" punishment. Some of these people may repent in time to avoid this punishment.
The Book of Mormon can be read online at this link (specific references to relevant Book of Mormon versus will be given below):
In addition to the three sections which talk about the theory of evolution, there is a section below about modern apostles and what they have said about the theory of evolution (they obviously reject the theory of evolution).
So let's talk about the three sections in the Book of Mormon which rejected the theory of evolution decades before Darwin's two books introduced evolution to the World!!
First: The Book of Mormon - Alma 30
The first account where evolution can be found is in Alma 30 in the Book of Mormon. This chapter can be read online:
As can be seen in this account, the person who taught the doctrines of natural selection and evolution (i.e. that there is no God) in the Book of Mormon was Korihor, who in turn was taught these doctrines by satan himself!!
Because of Korihor's preaching, he became an enemy of the church of Christ and he was struck dumb by one of the great prophets mentioned in the Book of Mormon: Alma the Younger. The events the Book of Mormon discusses happened about 74 B.C.
So while the Book of Mormon introduced the theory of evolution (without using the term "evolution" which probably did not exist in 1830), the Book of Mormon was very critical of the theory of evolution 29 years before Darwin published his first book about evolution!! And the Book of Mormon was published more than 120 years before DNA was discovered, which was the first time that the theory of evolution could be disproven.
Did you note that Korihor was called the "anti-Christ?" No doubt part of the reason Korihor was called the "anti-Christ" was because he taught that God did not exist (Alma 30:28, 37-38, 43, 48, see: 52-53) and that Christ would never be born (Alma 30:6, 12-13, 15, 23, 26) and he taught that Adam and Eve never existed (Alma 30:25), meaning they were not created by God. He also taught natural selection in three different ways in the same verse (Alma 30:17).
Later in this article I will link to an article about the Grand Council. Satan (who was called "Lucifer" in the Grand Council) and Adam (the Savior's top general in the Grand Council) knew each other before Adam and Eve were put on this planet!!! That will explain why the theory of evolution even exists - it exists to convince people that Adam and Eve never existed!!!
I sometimes call the theory of evolution "satan's perfect doctrine" because it does away with a belief in the Godhead (or in the case of Christ, it claims that He was not the son of God) and Adam and Eve. No one can deny that Christ lived due to many historical records, even outside of the Bible.
So what is wrong with teaching natural selection? As is mentioned on this website multiple times, natural selection is an elimination process, not a creation process. So natural selection has nothing to do with creating a new species, yet it is frequently claimed to be an "evidence" for evolution (which it is NOT).
Satan taught natural selection to Korihor because at the time (before the discovery of DNA) it may have appeared that natural selection was evidence for evolution. In fact, Darwin coined the phrase: "evolution by natural selection." However, we now know that natural selection is purely an elimination process and in NO WAY is it a creation process. But in 74 A.D. someone might have believed it was a creation process.
The point is that all of Korihor's doctrines (i.e. satan's doctrines) were, item by item, exactly the opposite of the doctrines taught by the prophets in his day (74 B.C.), such as Ammon and Alma the Younger. All of the other enemies of the church mentioned in the Book of Mormon taught a mixture or truth and error. But everything Korihor taught was the opposite of the truth.
Here is an article which lists many of the differences between LDS doctrine and what Korihor (via satan) taught:
The reason that everything Korihor taught was the opposite of the doctrines of Christ was that Korihor was also the only enemy of the church who was taught his doctrines by a personal appearance of the devil!! (Alma 30:42, 52-53)!!
This may explain why Korihor was also the only enemy of the church who was commanded to be struck dumb by a prophet of God, Alma the Younger (Alma 30:49-50).
Let us look deeper into why satan would care about whether Korihor believed in Adam and Eve.
Before we were born on this planet, meaning before Adam and Eve were put on this planet, there was a war in heaven. YOU (AS A SPIRIT) WERE THERE!!!!!
The war in heaven effectively started with what is called the Grand Council. All of us, including anyone reading this article, was at the Grand Council (that includes YOU!!)
Study this article carefully:
Note that the four key people at that meeting were Heavenly Father, Christ (Jehovah), Adam and Lucifer (i.e. now called the devil).
Now consider this quote from that article: "Michael, the archangel (who on earth was called Adam), led the "forces" of Jehovah in a battle for the loyalties of the Father's spirit children." The article does not mention this, but when God cast Lucifer out of Heaven, it might have been Michael who implemented the Father's command. But in any case, Michael and Lucifer knew each other very, very well!!
Michael would later become Adam, who, along with his wife Eve, were the first parents on this planet. All of us are descended from Adam and Eve on every line of our genealogy.
But here is where I am going: Satan/Lucifer hated Adam for multiple reasons, such as Adam being the top general of Christ and for likely being the one who physically cast Lucifer and his followers out of heaven!! So it would make perfect sense that the theory of evolution (which was taught to Korihor by satan himself) would reject that Adam and Eve ever existed!!
Think about it: if the theory of evolution were true, we humans would be descended from bonobos or Chimpanzees or some other primate. One of the major purposes of the theory of evolution is to REJECT that Adam and Eve ever existed!!! But this is not an accident, it is part of the design of satan!!
The great prophet Alma the Younger described Korihor's doctrines as being designed so that "[the devil] may destroy the children of God" (Alma 30:42). This was Alma the Younger's description of the goal of what we now call: the theory of evolution!!
This comment is still true today!!!
As if being struck dumb was not enough, Korihor was soon killed by a wicked people. Satan does not support his top missionaries when he is done using them - he drags them down to hell!!!
Note very carefully that when satan is done using someone, he quickly drags them down to hell!!
Well, it is more complicated than that because of the "spirit world" and the Millennium but I won't go into that here.
Note also that the theory of evolution was taught personally by satan because it is satan's perfect doctrine!!! It is a mirror-image of the doctrines of the prophets, who teach a belief in God, Christ, the Holy Ghost, Adam and Eve and other prophets!!! There is even a living prophet on the earth today: Russell M. Nelson!!! When God has a large enough group of followers, they are always led by a prophet.
Now you will better understand the punishments I will discuss below.
Alma chapter 30 is a prophesy about the coming forth of the false and anti-Christ doctrines of the theory of evolution and is a warning to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (i.e. LDS church, Latter-Day Saint church or Mormon church), and to all others, about these false doctrines!!
In summary, Korihor had several unique characteristics:
The modern day "Korihor's" (e.g. Richard Dawkins, Sam Harris, Daniel Dennett, the late Christopher Hitchens, Peter Singer, and hundreds of others) are not much different than Korihor.
The Book of Mormon is accepted as official doctrine of the Mormon church (i.e. the LDS church)!!
Furthermore, other official scriptures of the LDS church teach that God created the heavens and the earth and that God also created Adam and Eve as the world's first humans after God created plants.
Second: The Book Of Mormon - 3 Nephi 29:4-7 (What Richard Dawkins, And Many Others, Had Better Pay Attention To!!!)
The Book of Mormon is no where near as diplomatic as the Bible with regards to the atheists and evolutionists of today.
Let us talk about 3 Nephi 29:4-7 in the Book of Mormon. These versus are part of a prophesy:
The punishment of becoming "like unto the son of perdition" is a MASSIVELY STRONG PUNISHMENT though we have no details about it as this is the only place in the Book of Mormon that it is mentioned!!! Whether it is an eternal punishment or not I do not know.
The "son of perdition" punishment is an eternal punishment. However, the "son of perdition" punishment is restricted to members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints who have the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Examples of the miracles of Christ in the scriptures include healing people in many ways such as restoring sight to the blind, raising the dead and above all, the resurrection of Christ and after Christ, the resurrection of many others (i.e. Christ was the first to be resurrected).
The apostles, who got their authority from Christ, also performed many miracles both during and after the life of Christ.
It is interesting that the Book of Mormon, published in 1830, makes prophesies which are being fulfilled, over and over again, in the twenty-first century!! When the Book of Mormon was published, Darwin had still not written his first book!!
Heavenly Father loves His children, and anyone who tampers with their testimonies regarding God, for profit, could be putting themselves in harms-way on Judgment Day!!
Do not forget the punishment for those who fall into this category - they may become: "like unto the Son of Perdition" (verse 7). This cannot be a good thing!!
And note that this represents an an entire category of people on Judgment Day, though it likely is a subcategory of the Telestial Kingdom!!! And this category is primarily aimed at atheists and evolutionists who make a significant part of their living dragging people away from God and in the process they mock a belief in the miracles of Christ!!!
What happens to a member of the LDS church who fits into the category of "like unto the son of perdition?" Could they end up being a "son of perdition" if pushing the theory of evolution, whether for gain or not, would qualify him/her as "fighting against the church?" That is purely God's call as the decision is made on a case-by-case basis, but I certainly would not want to be in the situation where I was even remotely a candidate for either punishment!!!!
More Comments About 3 Nephi 29:4-7
Before going on, the versus in 3 Nephi that we just talked about need more explanation. The scriptures, like the Book of Mormon, are not like the IRS Tax Code!!! The job of the IRS Tax Code is to consider every possible situation and to provide an answer of the government for every possible situation. The IRS tax code is massively, massively longer than the three versus we are talking about, yet the punishment just mentioned is massively greater than anything the IRS can do to someone!!!
Because a person does not meet the exact criteria of the above verses, like Richard Dawkins does, does that mean this person can ignore the above scriptures???
The answer is NO!!! No one knows the exact criteria for becoming "like unto a son of perdition." And only Heavenly Father can determine who fits into this category!!! My opinion means nothing on Judgment Day (e.g. Dawkins may repent). But he certainly is the "poster child" based on what I know now.
I should note that Richard Dawkins was born in 1941. As I already mentioned, the Book of Mormon was published more than 110 years before Richard Dawkins was even born!!!! That should get his attention, but I am sure it will not.
It is not the intention of the scriptures to talk about every possible person and every possible scenario relative to the youth and even adults in or out of the LDS church. It is extremely well known and proven that the theory of evolution, as taught in school (beginning in middle school) can severely damage the testimonies in God of the youth of the LDS or any other church!!!
For example, carefully watch this YouTube video by evangelical minister Ken Ham and the Part 2 video as well:
Here is Part 2 (if Part 1 did not automatically go to Part 2):
Note his comment that youth start to leave their church (mentally) in middle school and that by the time START college their belief in God is "already gone"!!
The school teachers who do the damage that Ken Ham talks about (and they may be required to teach evolution), beginning in middle school, are nothing like Richard Dawkins, so will they get off scot-free on Judgment Day?? Probably, but in some cases the teacher may be overly supportive of evolution and may be responsible to some degree of damaging testimonies in God.
The scriptures teach principles and leaves it up to the reader to determine how they may apply to them!!! But God makes the final decision!!!
For example, some high school biology teachers teach out of pro-evolution biology books and they are teaching what they are paid to teach. I seriously doubt any of them, unless they are fanatical evolutionists, would even remotely suffer for what they do.
But some high school biology teachers worship and praise Richard Dawkins and the late Christopher Hitchens, etc. in their classroom!! The students hear over and over again how smart and wonderful people like Dawkins are. To some degree, is not the teacher indirectly ridiculing the miracles of Christ??
Or to put it another way: if the school teacher, with the blessings of the school administrators, on a face-to-face basis with students, knowingly and proactively destroys the testimonies in God and His prophets of their students, not just as guilty as Richard Dawkins, the late Christopher Hitchens, etc.!! Will they get off scot free?? In terms of quantity, probably not, but that does not mean they will get off scot-free on judgment day!!!
God will judge every person individually and He will be a just God in every case!!
There are likely many degrees of guilt between a high school biology teacher who reluctantly teaches the theory of evolution versus the professionals who write books, give speeches, etc. which are designed to mock others who believe in God (e.g. the late Christopher Hitchens was the poster child of those who do this).
What a person needs to do is ask the question: WHAT IS THE MESSAGE of Alma 30 and 3 Nephi 29:4-7??? The message is that God does not like people who knowingly and intentionally damage the testimonies of God that youth and many others have!! Those who knowingly destroy the testimonies of others may have a very, very, very bad day on Judgment Day!!!
The scriptures are not what God uses to judge people. The scriptures PROVIDE CLUES as to the way that God thinks (not that we could comprehend the way that God thinks).
Some people will become "like unto the son of perdition" or it would not be mentioned in the scriptures. But what the scriptures don't say is that others may not become "like unto the son of perdition," but yet there may be very, very serious ramifications for the damage they have done to the youth of any church.
Whether the person damages the testimonies of millions of students or scores of students in their classroom, does God not know what is going on???
Remember, the scriptures are not like the tax code. The scriptures teach principles. It is not the intent of the scriptures to describe the punishment and reward of every type of person on this planet. The scriptures are teaching tools. As we read the scriptures we should constantly be asking ourselves: "why are these versus in the scriptures and how could these versus apply to me?"
My point is that just because a school teacher does not technically fit into the versus that Richard Dawkins fits into, does not mean there will not be some ramifications by God for proactively and intentionally leading astray the youth they are responsible for teaching!!!
But always remember it is the person responsible for the teaching of the theory of evolution, not necessarily the person actually teaching it!!!
Let me repeat that because it is critical:
But always remember it is the person responsible for the teaching of the theory of evolution, not necessarily the person actually teaching it!!!
This could not only apply to teachers, but also to school administrators and even the administrators at a state-wide level. Trust me on this one, it may apply all the way to the Congress, the Supreme Court of the United States, etc.!!! Yes, even judges will be judged by God!!! This is something that some of the Supreme Court justices don't seem to understand!!!
In fact, the concept of "like unto the son of perdition" is far, far worse than the people who are cast into hell for 1,000 years during the Millennium!!! Burning in hell for 1,000 years during the Millennium is burning in hell for a fixed length of time!!! After the end of the Millennium the person goes to the Telestial Kingdom, which is actually a better place than where we live right now (except for the people they live with)!!!
The problem with living on the "Telestial Planet" after the Millennium, will not be the planet itself. The problem will be the kind of people you will be living with forever (e.g. Hitler, Stalin, Mao Zedong, rapists, some of the Rockefellers [for surpressing cures for cancer], etc.)!!!
And the other part of the problem with living on the Telestial planet is that you will not be living with any Celestial or Terrestrial people!!!
This is the list you need to remember:
We do not know if the "Like Unto the Son of Perdition" is an eternal punishment. But because it contains the phrase "son of perdition" it very likely could be an eternal punishment. It is clearly the worst possible punishment for non-members of the LDS church (who cannot become Sons of Perdition because they do not have the gift of the Holy Ghost).
My point is that when you damage the testimonies of the youth of the church, or anyone else, you potentially face an ETERNAL, NEVER-ENDING punishment. The fate that Hitler and Stalin will face, after the Second Coming of Christ, may be less severe than the punishment of those who fit into the category of "like unto the son of perdition!!!!!"
Third Place In The Book of Mormon: 1 Nephi 8
Consider these versus in 1 Nephi 8 (the prophet Lehi is speaking about a vision he had had):
10 And it came to pass that I beheld a tree, whose fruit was desirable to make one happy.
11 And it came to pass that I did go forth and partake of the fruit thereof; and I beheld that it was most sweet, above all that I ever before tasted. Yea, and I beheld that the fruit thereof was white, to exceed all the whiteness that I had ever seen.
12 And as I partook of the fruit thereof it filled my soul with exceedingly great joy; wherefore, I began to be desirous that my family should partake of it also; for I knew that it was desirable above all other fruit.
13 And as I cast my eyes round about, that perhaps I might discover my family also, I beheld a river of water; and it ran along, and it was near the tree of which I was partaking the fruit.
14 And I looked to behold from whence it came; and I saw the head thereof a little way off; and at the head thereof I beheld your mother Sariah, and Sam, and Nephi; and they stood as if they knew not whither they should go.
15 And it came to pass that I beckoned unto them; and I also did say unto them with a loud voice that they should come unto me, and partake of the fruit, which was desirable above all other fruit.
16 And it came to pass that they did come unto me and partake of the fruit also.
17 And it came to pass that I was desirous that Laman and Lemuel should come and partake of the fruit also; wherefore, I cast mine eyes towards the head of the river, that perhaps I might see them.
18 And it came to pass that I saw them, but they would not come unto me and partake of the fruit.
19 And I beheld a rod of iron, and it extended along the bank of the river, and led to the tree by which I stood.
20 And I also beheld a strait and narrow path, which came along by the rod of iron, even to the tree by which I stood; and it also led by the head of the fountain, unto a large and spacious field, as if it had been a world.
21 And I saw numberless concourses of people, many of whom were pressing forward, that they might obtain the path which led unto the tree by which I stood.
22 And it came to pass that they did come forth, and commence in the path which led to the tree.
23 And it came to pass that there arose a mist of darkness; yea, even an exceedingly great mist of darkness, insomuch that they who had commenced in the path did lose their way, that they wandered off and were lost.
[Note: The "mist of darkness" would include any false teachings which are anti-prophet, anti-God and/or anti-Christ doctrines, which the theory of evolution easily fits into!!!!]
24 And it came to pass that I beheld others pressing forward, and they came forth and caught hold of the end of the rod of iron; [Note: the "rod of iron" would have been any true doctrines (e.g. there is a God) as taught by the prophets.] and they did press forward through the mist of darkness, clinging to the rod of iron, even until they did come forth and partake of the fruit of the tree.
25 And after they had partaken of the fruit of the tree they did cast their eyes about as if they were ashamed.
26 And I also cast my eyes round about, and beheld, on the other side of the river of water, a great and spacious building; and it stood as it were in the air, high above the earth.
27 And it was filled with people, both old and young, both male and female; and their manner of dress was exceedingly fine; and they were in the attitude of mocking and pointing their fingers towards those who had come at and were partaking of the fruit.
(Note: In 3 Nephi 29:5 the word sperneth is used!!! The word "spern" and "mock" are very similar. Either of these are a defining characteristics of Richard Dawkins and the late Christopher Hitchens and others.)
28 And after they had tasted of the fruit they were ashamed, because of those that were scoffing at them; and they fell away into forbidden paths and were lost.
29 And now I, Nephi, do not speak all the words of my father.
30 But, to be short in writing, behold, he saw other multitudes pressing forward; and they came and caught hold of the end of the rod of iron; and they did press their way forward, continually holding fast to the rod of iron, until they came forth and fell down and partook of the fruit of the tree.
31 And he also saw other multitudes feeling their way towards that great and spacious building.
32 And it came to pass that many were drowned in the depths of the fountain; and many were lost from his view, wandering in strange roads.
33 And great was the multitude that did enter into that strange building. And after they did enter into that building they did point the finger of scorn at me and those that were partaking of the fruit also; but we heeded them not.
34 These are the words of my father: For as many as heeded them, had fallen away.
[End of Quote]
The phrase: "mocking and pointing their fingers" (verse 27) sounds like something the people who qualify for "like unto the son of perdition" would fit into (3 Nephi 29:4-7 above). So at least two of the versus use words similar to "mock."
While these versus talk about different ways to describe false doctrines and popular doctrines, it is certain that the teaching of the theory of evolution would be a significant part of the "mist of darkness" mentioned above, since the Book of Mormon clearly discusses the theory of evolution in other places as shown above!! While these versus do not specifically talk about Judgment Day there are certainly stong implications for Judgment Day in these versus.
Did you notice the phrase: "they were in the attitude of mocking and pointing their fingers towards those who had come at and were partaking of the fruit." God does not like to be mocked and He does not like His followers to be mocked!!
And as is mentioned in other places, the doctrines of the theory of evolution are a mirror-image of the doctrines of the Latter-Day Saint (Mormon) church!!
Modern-Day Prophets And Apostles In The Mormon/LDS Church Who Have Been Critical Of The Theory of Evolution
Not only is the Book of Mormon critical of the theory of evolution, even modern-day prophets and apostles have been critical of the theory of evolution.
President Russell M. Nelson, President of the LDS church, described the absurdity of the theory of evolution with a question: "Could an explosion in a printing shop produce a dictionary ... [that could] heal its own torn pages or reproduce its own newer editions?"
President Nelson was not asking a question, he was making a statement: "evolution could not have happened."
He is correct, randomness has never created anything highly complex; but human cells, and the DNA inside of those cells, are almost incomprehensible complexity and sophisticated!! Thousands of scientists have PhD degrees in Cell Biology and thousands more have PhD degrees in Microbiology so cells and DNA are not simple!!! And scientists have never decoded the entire DNA strand of any species of plant, animal or even insect!!! They still don't know how DNA can control cell divisions (and they never will as I explain in my Sixteen Cells Paradox article).
But DNA is even more complex that Cell Biology. Scientists will understand cells long before they understand everything on DNA.
President Nelson is not the only apostolic critic of the theory of evolution among the top leaders of the LDS church. Elder Jeffrey R. Holland is another apostle who has been openly critical of the theory of evolution. This is link to a speech he gave at Brigham Young University:
If you want to watch and listen to the speech, press the triangle icon on the BYU web page.
Every person Elder Holland mentions (and hundreds of others) easily qualifies to become "like unto the son of perdition," but only God can make the official determination and only God can grant forgiveness to those who ask in faith and sincerity!!
The principle is that God clearly does not like people damaging the testimonies in the Godhead of the youth (and adults) of the LDS church or any other church!!
Do You See The Pattern??
I don't know which is worse: being "drowned in the depth of the sea" (Matthew 18:6) or becoming "like unto the son of perdition" mentioned in the Book of Mormon above. They may be different ways to say the same thing but their audiences may be very different so their statements are very different!!
Here is another interesting two versus in the book of Mormon within the Book of Mormon:
All of the above scriptures and comments make it clear that God does not like people damaging the testimonies in God of others. The difference is that the "like unto the son of perdition" has specific criteria and a specific punishment which lasts after death and perhaps for a great many years after death.
But in all of the above cases, the key point is that God does not like people tampering with the testimonies of others, especially youth who do not have the background to see through many false doctrines and who may be more sensitive to being mocked than adults!!!
Korihor learned the hard way that God loves His children. Many others today will also learn the hard way that God loves His children!!
What Happens At And After The Second Coming Of The Savior Jesus Christ??
When a person dies, they continue to live on this planet as a spirit. In the Brigham Young priesthood and Relief Society manual is a description of the spirit world. The only thing I would add to the article is that the spirit world has many evil people in it!!! These people can do some evil things in the spirit world, but not every type of evil thing!!
Murder cannot be committed in the spirit world (spirits cannot die), there is no "mass media" (sorry Goebbels) and there would be no purpose to jails because people could get out of them.
Adultery can be committed in the spirit world and it is just as serious of a sin as in mortality. However, adultery in the spirit world is not the same as in mortality but I do not know the details as to why. I suspect Heavenly Father would describe it as "two people who are not married who are doing the same thing that married couples in the spirit world do." Perhaps a better term than adultery would be violating chastity. We don't know enough about the spirit body, and how it functions, to understand these things.
My point is that a person fully qualified for the Celestial Kingdom at the time they die, may drop all the way down to the Telestial Kingdom because of the things they do in the spirit world!!! The spirit world is another test, it is not a vacation resort as some people make it sound.
I would suspect that adultery in the spirit world is quite common as husbands and wives rarely die at the same time. But adultery is also a serious sin even in the spirit world!! In the Ten Commandments adultery is listed right after murder, which cannot be committed in the spirit world. So adultery may be the #1 sin in the spirit world along with preaching false doctrines.
Every person who has ever lived on this planet, and has died, and has not been resurrected, is in the spirit world. This includes Hitler, Stalin, Mao Zedong, Genghis Khan and every other scumbag who ever lived on this earth and every righteous person who has not been resurrected. This would include scores of billions of people!!!
There is a massive amount of missionary work going on in the spirit world!!!! For example, even to this day China has little or zero missionary work going on (certainly no sanctioned missionary work as it is illegal as I write this). But there is no restriction to missionary work in the spirit world as the mass media does not exist and armies would be very, very small, if they exist at all. I doubt that people, good or bad, could be confined (such as in a jail) because of the way that people in the spirit world can move around (basically at the speed of light).
Given all of the things that must happen before the Second Coming (particularly the prophesy that the gospel will be preached in all the world [except perhaps in Israel] before the Second Coming), the Second Coming will not likely happen until at least 2100 A.D. or even later than that, however, no one knows even within a decade as to when the Second Coming will be!! All we know is that a long list of things must happen first.
Let me make one more comment. Think about a married couple where one of them goes to the Celestial Kingdom and the other goes to the Telestial Kingdom (e.g. for things that at least one of them did in the spirit world). At the Second Coming of Christ, these two people may never again live on the same planet except for the hour or so that the spouse that was sent to the Millennium planet comes to this earth to be resurrected.
But perhaps the most important thing I can say in this article I have already said. A person who is fully qualified for the Celestial Kingdom, at the time they die, can drop all the way down to the Telestial Kindom because of what they do in the spirit world.
